The South African Police Service spokesperson, Sgt Linkie Lefakane has confirmed an incident that occured in Mandela Section in Bekkersdal where a 25-year-old, female Lesotho national was caught selling live ammunition on the streets.
Sgt Linkie reported, “It is alleged that on Thursday the 21 July 2022 at 16:00pm the community was gathering as a forum discussing their community issues when they were alerted by one of the community members that there was a woman carrying a plastic and was busy selling live ammunition.”
Sgt Linkie added, “The group immediately cornered the lady and upon searching her they indeed found live ammunition inside a plastic bag. When asked about the ammunition she said it belonged to his boyfriend. They further took her to her place and more ammunition, a firearm, rubber bullets, security hand cuffs and ammunition belt was found and seized. The police were immediately informed and the probe to trace the boyfriend was done with no success. However investigation is underway.”

The woman was arrested and will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen properties and for the contravention of Immigration Act as she has no documentation to be the country.
She is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrate court soon.
