JOHANNESBURG: 30-year-old man Mduduzi Masuku, a Zimbabwean national, was found guilty for the rape of a minor and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Booysens Magistrate Court on the 20th of July 2022.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Captain Xoli Mbele, the SAPS spokesperson confirmed the unfortunate incident where an 11-year-old girl was raped in the veld next to Jackson Squatter Camp (Eikenhof) on the 13th of June 2020.
Mbele says, “Mother of the victim went to the veld with her neighbour (accused) to fetch firewood using his wheelbarrow. When she came back she asked the daughter and younger brother to take the wheelbarrow back to the veld to give her neighbour.”
“He raped her and threatened to kill her if she revealed her ordeal to anyone. The victim eventually alerted her mother on the 21st of June 2020; police were contacted and he was apprehended by Mondeor SAPS on the same day.”

“Good conviction is a result of a diligent work done by Sergeant Paseka Jantjie of Johannesburg Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS). We hope this sentence will scare away would be offenders from committing crimes against women and children,” concludes Cpt Mbele.
