Police would like to thank Orange Farm taxi drivers next to Mall of the South taxi rank for saving rape victim’s life. The taxi drivers called the ambulance and some Lesotho nationals assisted by handing the suspect over to the police.
The suspect, Kgotso Rakgaleye, a 28-year-old male and Lesotho national will be appearing in the Booysens Magistrate Court on the 12th of May 2022 for rape and attempted murder.
The SAPS spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele says, “It is alleged that suspect raped and stabbed a 49-year-old female at a field near Mall of the South Swartkoppies Road on the 21st of March 2022 at 09:00. Victim was selling mealies next to the taxi rank; she went to the field to fetch water, where she was confronted by the suspect. He strangled and dragged her to the field; he raped her and after he has finished he told her it is better for him to kill her because they know each other”. She sustained multiple stab wounds in her upper body and he left her thinking that she is dead.”
Cpt Mbele further said, “Victim crawled to a Taxi Rank to Orange Farm next to Mall of the South. Taxi drivers saved her life by calling an ambulance. She told them her ordeal and gave description of a suspect wearing cultural Lesotho National blanket. His homeboys went to the field looking for a suspect and apprehended him. His blanket was soaked with blood. Victim was in hospital for a month.”
