ZASTRON – The South African Police Service had confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old boy who was arrested on the 4th of May 2022, after a fatal stabbing of his fellow classmate, a minor in grade 6 at the Zama Primary School in Zastron, Free State.
According to Sergeant Peter Kareli, spokesperson for the Free State Police, the suspect stabbed the victim, on Wednesday 4 May 2022, once in the chest and fled the scene.
The suspect was handed over to the police by his uncle and a neighbour after finding him where he was in hiding. The pair were directed to the suspect by community members who were shocked by the incident.
Sgt Kareli explained, “On Wednesday 04 May 2022, at about 14:20, Zastron police were summoned to a school where reports of stabbing occurred. On arrival members discovered that the suspect was chased and arrested by community members who witnessed the unfortunate incident. The victim had already been taken to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to the stab wound he suffered in the chest.”
He added, “It is alleged that the suspect and the victim engaged in an argument that became physical while at school. The suspect was called to the principal’s office and instructed to go and call his parents. Instead he came back to school carrying a knife and waited till after school. The fight started again and the suspect stabbed the victim once in the chest and fled the scene. The teacher who was nearby took the victim in his vehicle with the knife still stuck in his chest to the hospital and on his way met the Emergency services who unfortunately declared the 15-year-old dead before he could reach the hospital.”
The suspect’s uncle said that his (suspect’s) parents are in different provinces and are making arrangements to arrive by the weekend.
