The Gauteng Provincial Government led by MEC Faith Tjovitjo Mazibuko is currently holding a school safety indaba program today, 27 February 2022 at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14, Sebokeng following incidents of bullying, gangsterism, break-ins as well as violence against learners and educators within Gauteng schooling environment.
The event started at 10am this morning and is currently underway.
The MEC is being supported by Emfuleni Public Safety MMC Ndade Mokoena, Sedibeng District Community Police Board Chairman Mr Sam Mokako, Sedibeng District Education Director Mr Maseko, Gauteng Provincial SAPS Social Crime Prevention Coordinator, Lt Colonel Mofokeng and others.
Attending are various stakeholders including the Gauteng Department of Education, School Principals, members of School Governing Bodies, Organized Labour, Department of Correctional Services, Representative Council of Learners and Student Movements such as COSAS and many more.
Schools are experiencing high levels of burglaries, Bullying, Substance abuse, gangsterism and teenage pregnancies. Some learners are being molested by teachers and facing many problems.
