
Judge Ratha Mokgatheng handed down the sentence at the Johannesburg High Court on Thursday, 27 January 2022.
Serial rapist, Tebogo Petrus Matjeke’s reign of terror was mainly in Diepsloot from 25 February 2013 until 22 November 2014 when he and several accomplices terrorized women in the area. The gang attacked their victims in the early hours of the morning, while wielding an object resembling a firearm. At some stage, the convict moved to the North West Province where he continued with his crime spree.
Matjeke was eventually arrested by the police in 2019 and linked to several cases of rape, kidnapping, pointing of firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, aiding and abetting. He was then convicted and sentenced to 16 life imprisonment terms plus an additional 150 years imprisonment.

“This lengthy sentence should serve as a deterrence to other people who think of committing similar crimes, especially against women and children. I am proud of this young and energetic detective sergeant who worked with zeal and enthusiasm to ensure that this serial rapist is removed from the society and that he spend the rest of his life behind bars”, said Lieutenant General Mawela
Suspects that are still at large will remain on the wanted list until they are also apprehended and brought to book.
