Textbook wreaks havoc on social media

Article by Constance van Niekerk

A Zimbabwean text book is trending on social media but, all for the wrong reasons. The book is wreaking havoc inciting a tribal war on social media. The book written by P. Mkwebu and J. Mataure is a text book for grade 3s and apparently contains a gross error as it purports that one legendary singer, Lovemore Majaivana is late.

Majaivana born in the then Gwelo, Rhodesia on the 14th of December 1954 currently resides in the US since 2001 and has not been active on the music scene since his exodus. Born Lovemore Tshuma, he is arguably the most popular Ndebele singer and by far the most prominent to have come out of Gweru. He earned the stage name ‘Majaivana’ (which means good dancer) for his exceptional dancing. (Wikipedia).

Lovemore Majaivana – Umoya Wami

As Zimbabweans are up in arms, deprecating this book, the government is utterly silent. Surely an apology to the very much alive Majaivana is in order as the book has a stamp of approval from the ministry, let the government stand up and take responsibility. The president ought to issue an apology to the children for feeding them fibs. The book in question has no business to continue roaming the schools and need to be completely annihilated to preserve our history. How does the government remain silent at such glaring negligence?

How many other lies are the children being fed while the government stands by and look?
