It’s time to divorce

When it’s not working, it’s not working. It’s no union when the other partner leaves the other alone in the cold time and time again. It’s not worth it when you are constantly left in the dark by your partner…. Sometimes, we just got to admit failure and move on in search of more reliable partners.

For the first time in days I’ve woken up to find the lights on. I’ve had a hot cup of coffee and warm bath for the first time in days. But, I might soon be without electricity for the rest of the day. I can’t help but ask, Africa, where are we going wrong? These power cuts are all over the continent, not only in South Africa.

This, for me is just déjà vu…. I’ve lived this life before back home in Zimbabwe. We thought things would get better, but they got worse. Now, there’s hardly ever electricity in Zimbabwe. So, brace yourself South Africa! It’s time to look for alternative sources of energy before it’s too late. The best energy source, with no hassles of replenishment is solar energy. Solar energy is the way forward for Africa. We have so much of it, why not put it to good use? It is easy, clean and does not run out. Once you get your kit, set up, then you can rest easy. It doesn’t make noise like the generator and there’s no need to buy fuel, just back-up batteries. Why are our governments not taking advantage of the African sun and get rid of all coal power plants and replace with solar energy?After-all, coal plants are a health hazard and a danger to the environment. Coal can also run out, substituting it damages to equipment which is quite expensive to maintain and repair. The African sun is brutally hot and free… Our winters are not that cold that we can worry about being left in the cold by our solar energy. This is an idea to consider for a loadshedding free continent. Solar panels can be used in your home without any worry of power cuts. The more people make use of alternative sources of energy, the better.

It’s really time for Africa and the world to divorce coal and go solar! Our planet will thank us for it.
