It’s sad when a person dies with his/her calling. It doesn’t matter whether it’s in the music industry, acting or even religious circle, having someone carry on the legacy is very important and comforting to those left behind.
Zimbabwe’s multi-talented songstress, actress and heiress to the Tuku Music legacy, Selmor Mtukudzi is surely keeping her father’s legacy alive. The award-winning Afro-pop musician launched her sixth album last week in Harare. The eleven track album, ‘Dehwe reNzou’ is a follow up on a single released about two weeks back. The single, ‘Mandidzimbira’ is a moving track dedicated to the late internationally renowned musical icon, Oliver Mtukudzi, her father.

‘Mandidzimbira’ truly speaks to the soul. It reminded me of my own father who passed away almost two decades ago. I could not hold back my tears as Selmor did the famous Tuku dances on her video. The single is truly a work of art deserving of accolades dedicated to an equally deserving musical hero.
I’m yet to get my hands on the newly launched album. My guess is, it is as good as ‘Mandidzimbira’.
