Proudly old school!

Every picture tells a story and more often than not, it will not be the intended story. I stumbled upon the above picture on a friend’s Facebook Timeline. It’s great that everyone thought this was incredible artwork, unfortunately I beg to differ.

I’m an art lover, believe me, I love all things creative, but, I have failed to see the creativity in this picture.

I’ve been told the guy is an actor in one of South Africa’s leading etv soapie, Rhythm City. This revelation puzzles me the more. As a celebrity, there are young men who look upto him, what lessons is this picture giving? The picture depicts a man I assume to be a husband kneeling before a woman who I will assume to be his pregnant wife who is now his ‘mom’. The man is in diapers and has a pacifier in his mouth. I have decided to try to explain what I see, hoping you would see it too.

A man is the head of the family, not only in Christianity but, even in the African culture. He cannot be a baby. If that guy has sons, what is he teaching them? That unborn child will be born, will they proudly show him/ her the nakedness of his/ her father? These are modern times you say, but yeah… That’s just how morality decays in the name of ‘modern times’. Someone once commented, ‘we call our husbands ‘baby’ and our sons ‘papa’. Now, when the fathers start behaving like babies, we cry foul?’ Maybe men are happy being painted as babies who nurse from their wives, but I personally would not like my sons growing up thinking that his wife is his mother who breastfeeds him. I do not want my sons to think that they are helpless and need their wives to survive. Babies do not have responsibilities. Babies do whatever and it’s okay… He’s wearing a diaper!! Yes, wives nurture their husbands and care for their husbands but, not as their babies! Our forefathers are turning in their graves! Families are in the hands of grown up babies in diapers!

What kind of role models does tomorrow’s father have? Today most young men are flooding the internet with pornographic videos. The women walk half-naked, some without panties and not afraid to show it in public…. What kind of examples are we setting for the future generations? Call me old fashioned, I am proudly old school.

Let me not even go to the wife. I leave that to you.
