Most roads in Vereeniging are in a dire condition. Some are full of potholes while white lines are non-existent on others.
Is every problem solved by burning and destroying infrastructure. There are many ways to kill a cat, choose to be the change you want to see.
Early this morning as I scurried to church, I went past an elderly couple repainting the inconspicuous white lines on the road at corner Rhodes and Joubert streets. When next you drive over these neatly and meticulously painted lines, it wasn’t the municipality.
As I passed them, my conscience enunciated that I should spare a moment to show some appreciation to them. They were very amiable and we had a pleasant chat. If not that I was running late for church, I would have lent them a hand.
They are Frikkie and Elsie. Frikkie painted so prudently as Elsie assisted him and not a single ‘thank you’ from passers-by. Drivers just eyed them curiously as they drove past, one of them in a SAPS van.
I guess if it was a fight or some senseless caterwauling there would have been a colossal crowd. This would have trended on social media. Now that it was some good happening, passers-by were nonchalant.
Let’s give credit where it is due. Why is it becoming arduous to utter the words ‘Thank you’? Surely it doesn’t hurt… let’s try it.
Thank you Frikkie and Elsie
Let Frikkie and Elsie trend…
