Vins the Poet

Siphiwe Vincent Nxazonke

A poet of a kind is what VINS regards himself.  He makes sure that he leaves his crowd with jaws dropped and gives it goose bumps with his heartfelt recitals every time he performs.  VINS is a Vanderbijlpark based poet in a town called Bophelong who is on a quest of reframing poetry. One of the many ways he plans to achieve this is through making sure that he accommodates your average Joe in his writing by using a more comprehensive choice of words in his writing. His style of writing was influenced by how he struggled to understand poetry every time he attended poetry sessions before he started writing, he says that then most poets used a choice of words only a few people in the crowd understood and deprived a vast majority of the audience a chance to gaze in the performances.

He started writing when he was in grade 11 but took it more seriously in 2013 after reciting at a local radio station and got a response that made him realise the potential he has in poetry and how many lives he can touch with it and stories he can tell through it. His poetry journey is then fast forwarded to 2014 where he entered and won a talent show that made him identify a market for Spoken Word Sundays at the North West University (Vaal Triangle Campus) in association with a band Blaq2sday. With a proper teamwork that went behind these spoken word Sundays that took place at the NWU VTC residences, birth was given to an annual Poetry and Live Music Show ‘The Next Big Thing’. A platform that gives Creatives in all their various forms of art a chance to showcase their amazing God-given talent.

Vins da Poet

It was through The Next Big Thing that VINS connected with other talented poets that helped him attend other poetry platforms such as the 2015 Vaal Poetry Competition which was organised by the Emfuleni Local Municipality in association with the Vaal University of Technology where he came out third position in a pool of 30 gifted poets. He has also been a part of Joburg Theatre’s Current State of Poetry competitions, Infinite Faces’ sessions at Ko’Spotong in Braamfontein and a vast number of other poetry houses.

His poetry addresses all the social issues in which everyone encounters but he makes it even more relevant and beautiful by writing it from first-hand experience fused with rhythmic music elements and an amazing creative word play. Currently working on an EP that he believes will speak for itself, make waves and reframe poetry as he has taken all the time in the world to ensure it is a godly masterpiece. He currently uses his facebook and instagram page and YouTube account as means of keeping contact with people who cannot reach him at poetry sessions.
Vins will be performing at the event A Nite Out with Constance and Friends that was billed to take place this Saturday the 6th of August but has been postponed until the weather is warmer. New details of the event will be posted on Facebook
