Sixteen days of activism

Constance van Niekerk, Vereeniging,  S.A.

Today, the 25th of November is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and it also marks the beginning of the international campaign- Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Violence which ends on the 10th of December which is Human Rights Day.

Here in South Africa,  it is the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign with the theme “Count me in. Together moving a non-violent South Africa forward”.

On the 6th of December,  there will be a National Prayer Day for women and children.
Official activities will take place at Johannesburg Stadium.

Speaking about the 16 Days of Activism campaign in parliament on the 21st of November, the Minister in The Presidency for Women, Susan Shabangu  said,  “Imagine living in a society where we no longer read or hear about the abuse that women and children often suffer at the hands of heartless perpetrators.”

Let’s all imagine that society and together,  we can make it happen.
